Shimokitazawa Flea Market
A weekend outdoor market in Shimokitazawa, the Tokyo neighbourhood best known for second-hand and vintage shopping. Thirty to forty independent sellers — collectors, shop owners and makers — set up four minutes from the station with vintage clothing, handmade jewellery, ceramics, textiles and artworks. Entry is free and no booking is needed.

What you will find
Rails of vintage and second-hand clothing, from everyday pieces to older finds; handmade jewellery and accessories; ceramics, textiles and small homeware; paintings and illustrations. Because sellers apply for individual dates, the line-up is different every market day. The person selling is usually the owner or the maker, so you can ask about a piece directly. Food trucks and coffee join on some days.

Venue: Shimokita Senrogai Akichi (an open-air lot next to the Shimokitazawa police box), 2-33-12 Kitazawa, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo 155-0031.
Access: 4 minutes on foot from the East Exit of Shimokitazawa Station (Odakyu Line from Shinjuku, about 8 minutes; Keio Inokashira Line from Shibuya, about 5 minutes). Walk along the Shimokita Senrogai promenade towards the police box.
